Do you remember using WordStar on the Televideo Tele-PC? Of course you don’t!
But now you can. Don’t you want to frob that keyboard?
You should always use the smallest legible font in your wordprocessor. Otherwise, the resulting PDF will be too heavy and will make your electrical wiring burst.

You know what I miss in word processors: Show Control Codes.
That gave you everything you needed to know why this thing won't do what you want it to and why this other thing is stuck and you can't move it. It also made it so much easier to troubleshoot inserting images.
There were no secrets.
Microsoft Word keeps secrets and I don't like it.

@thurrott Why didn't they just keep #WordPad for this if their intention is to turn #Notepad into a glorified #wordprocessor? I personally just want it as a simple text editor. Another thing I hate, is every time I launch it, it pops up an annoying notification bubble that gets in the way.
Okay, so here comes a hole in my "#markdown as #WordProcessor" strategy: sharing #documents.
I got .md files that I need to convert into #PDF, and it needs to be done on #Android.
Sure, the markdown editor supports printing to PDF, but it doesn't allow templating, so there is little to no margins, no font size control, or anything that's necessary to make a document readable through formatting.
Has anyone solved this problem, beyond using #pandoc with #termux?

Pomera DM250 distraction-free digital typewriter coming to the US Feb 18 for $499 (or less)
The Pomera DM250 is a portable digital typewriter that combines a keyboard large enough for touch-typing with a 7 inch transflective black and white LCD display. Designed primarily for use as a distraction-free writing tool, it’s basically a portable word processor rather than a full-fledged laptop computer.
First launched in Japan in 2022, folks in other parts of the world have been […]

@jsparber It would be great if someone built a very simple GTK4-based word processor on top of libreofficekit. A simple app that can display any LibreOffice document and has basic text-editing features. Together with a minimal clutter-free UI would be great. I'd use it everyday.
LibreOffice would still be for the heavy stuff.

You know what would be cool? A modernized word processor that uses an e-ink display, stores files on a USB-C drive, with magsafe charging, and a battery. It’d be a great option for privacy-minded people that want the retro experience, but with modern sensibility. Write their great American novel in a distraction free experience, and no internet access. Print it from itself when they're done - for a fraction of the cost of a Mac or PC
Potentially weird question. Are there any ad-free, freeware* that works on android, that's basically just Notepad? I don't want anything fancier than a plain Notepad but it's really hard to find because of the noise to content ratio. Thank you.
*Happy to pay for once only fee too, I don't sub anything though
