War of the Worlds

Based on the classic H. G. Weels is a sci-fi drama series that describes how a group of humans survive an attack by extraterrestrials.

Of the best series, of this genre I've seen in recent times.

"No one would have believed in the middle years of the twentieth century that this city was being watched ..."

These rather alien-looking mid-20th Century water towers in Garthamlock in the east of Glasgow always remind me of the opening lines from the War of the Worlds (and for obvious reasons, I always hear them said in the voice of Richard Burton!).

Listening to early Jean-Michel Jarre on #Spotify

Am smiling as I remember being a naive 16 year old being introduced to JMJ by his older audiophile cousin and me laughing and annoying him by asking "he's REALLY called John the Jam Jar?"

#misheard #artist

I was in awe of my cousin. He had this behemoth LP deck. He'd handle each record like a precious relic placing the stylus on the record with all due reverence.

Introduced me to the stereophonic wonders of his extensive record collection. I've him to thank for my love of #PinkFloyd , #Jarre, #Vangelis , #JeffWayne #WarofTheWorlds, #MikeOldfield #TubularBells , #ELO to name but a few. I'm eclectic in my musical tastes because he was.

No one would have believed I'd remember to keep posting for #MusicAdventCalendar but here is day 7 - the Lo-Fi Orchestra's slightly abridged version of Part 1 of Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds.

Here is:
- The Eve of the War
- Horsell Common and the Heat Ray
- The Artilleryman and the Fighting Machine
- Forever Autumn
- Thunder Child

Part 2 to follow later!

Welcome to my weekly Author Spotlight. I’ve asked a bunch of my author friends to answer a set of interview questions, and to share their latest work.

Eric Goebelbecker: I was lucky enough to inherit an incurable curiosity about technology and a tremendous love of science fiction from my father. Both led to a career repairing radars in the U.S. Army, followed by ...

You know, I think I’m done with post-apocalyptic shows. And I love post-apocalyptia. I just can’t take any more mopey, moody characters looking meaningfully at stuff, wallowing in their emotions, making utterly dumb decisions, with plots that go slowly nowhere, drawn out over multiple seasons.

I’m looking at you, #Invasion, #WarOfTheWorlds (and now this #StationEleven).

Ok ok #Silo gives me some hope (haven’t started S2). Also #Fallout (though I’m not big on gratuitous violence).

Would you have fallen for Orson Welles' infamous #WaroftheWorlds broadcast?

#OnThisDay in 1938, radio listeners tuned in to what sounded like a live report of a Martian invasion! Relive the thrill (and the chills) of this legendary moment with this rebroadcast from @wgbh now preserved in the American Archive of Public Broadcasting.

Listen for yourself and imagine how you might have felt if you'd tuned in that fateful night in 1938: americanarchive.org/catalog/cp

Thanks for the kind words! ★★★★★ Nicely-designed figures with a lot of detail. They're going to be just right for representatives of a malevolent, destructive machine-race determined to conquer the galaxy due to a legacy of corrupted programming. Vaguely reminiscent of HG Wells' Martian Tripods (only with four legs) ...... PLUSH HYENA of DOOM etsy.me/4h2ULv4 #etsy #warhammer #warhammer40k #nacron #waroftheworlds #scifi #miniatures #3dprinting
