Pictures just in from the ESA Hera flyby of the Red Planet today – careful image processing by @doddington has revealed a hitherto unexpected (& frankly quite undesired) planet-wide “Face on Mars”

Marvin the Martian seems as surprised as the rest of us by these developments

Go into garage and get this look.

a running belt with water bottles on top of Ryobi table saw looks like eyes being rolled towards ceiling, the angle adjust of saw kind of like a mouth. There’s also other warmer weather activity items piled on saw because that’s how I organize.

One last one from today’s hike, a really old truck being reclaimed by earth with a rather opinionated #pareidolia

what’s left of front half of truck, left axle/wheel, engine, bumper, steering wheel, and driveshaft. Where the driveshaft couple to engine there’s a couple bolts and square overhang, and then another coupling that looks very face like and none too impressed by any of this but resolute to hold on all the same

A little red metal utility (?) access door on a wall. It's hanging open. It has round holes that look like two eyes and a nose and a mouth saying "oooooh"

Latest image from Mars Express

An ancient martian impact structure, its surroundings largely covered with sand. There are a few smaller craters in the vicinity.

The centre has been filled with darker wind-blown volcanic material & more recently, a strange intersecting canyon system has been created, perhaps by tectonic activity.

Mist has accumulated overnight around the canyon.

A field with a dozen or so satellite dishes. The largest of the bunch, a very big whopper, has grey dirt on the inside of the dish, that in combination with the sticky-out antenna thingy and a hole in the dish, looks like a giant alien head with his mouth open in surprise.
Fun fact, this array of dishes is known as 'it grutte ear' (Frisian for the big ear).

a tall stump surrounded by spruce and covered in lichen and moss. there's a saw cut in it, that looks for all the world like a large mouth. above it a piece of wood looks like a nose while a mossy shadow could just be an eye.

Found this funny looking fire hydrant recently. It says "boca de incêndio" which literally translates to "mouth of fire". Coincidentally it looks exactly like a face!

In center frame, a cylindrical red fire hydrant is shown on the curb of a street with 3 open pipes coming out of it. There is 2 smaller pipes close to the top and 1 big pipe at the bottom. Location of each pipe makes it look like a face, with the 2 small pipes pointing to each side and the big pipe pointing down and forwards. The picture is taken in daylight.

I love a bit of pareidolia (the human habit of seeing faces in inanimate objects), and these fungi growing out of a sign post, which I came across to today's lunchtime dog walk in Glasgow, have created a great example. It reminds me of someone, but I can't quite put my finger on exactly who - possiby Beaker from the Muppet Show?
