I maintain https://github.com/unixorn/tumult.plugin.zsh, a collection of macos-specific shell scripts.
Enable/disable screen sharing, enable/disable file sharing, display dialogs from inside your shell scripts, make disk images from directories, manipulate the clipboard, toggle scripts for a lot of gui settings, and many more.
A new #blog post appears!
I built a native GCC 14.2.0 for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger PowerPC.
For #MARCHintosh I got out my old intel iMac that was given to me like a few years ago to reinstall Leopard
(1/5)
C'est une mise à jour franchement intensive d'un iMac G4, mais l'idée est vraiment belle, bravo ! https://jcs.org/2025/02/26/imacg4k #hack #matériel #macosx #machine
I fired up the old iMac G4 and now you can build and run #oksh using the IBM xlc compiler for Mac OS X. It works on Tiger at least, 10.4.11.

If you're looking for software to create and maintain a copy of your #music files in other formats, be it for storage on #portable devices, #format #compatibility or #streaming, then you might be interested in that piece of #software I wrote :
https://framagit.org/atom/AtOM
It's #GPL, and should run on #Linux (tested on Debian Bookworm and Trixie), #MacOSX (looking for testers), and #WSL (looking for testers).
Accsessing my blog on Safari from a Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. Pretty cool that I can accsess the internet on a now almost 20 year old os. But, I don't know what else to do with a Mac emulator?

one of the most important mac applications i've had since the powerpc days is telestream's ScreenFlow.... which began its life as a simple screen recording app, and slowly transitioned into a full tilt video editing suite over the next 15+ years. i've paid for a couple of upgrades over the years, just because it's 100x more enjoyable than dealing with final cut pro
screenflow has two cringe-inducing downsides:
- it requires activation (with a serial number)
- telestream breaks compatibility with older versions of OS X every single year and won't support older versions after a period.
they officially quit supporting anything older than v9.0 in 2021, which is tantamount to publicly announcing that v1.0 - v8.0 are now abandonware.
long story short: i spent the night archiving every single release of ScreenFlow from WBM and uploaded them to the mac garden. if you've got anything from OS X 10.5 to 10.14, you now have a working copy of screenflow.
they are uncracked at the moment - but i've contacted a fellow macgarden member who may know how to disable the activation on them.

enjoy! :)
@jonmsterling AquaUI in Podcast Chapters! Took me until now to realize that I have never used that interface in retina resolution before, and it sure doesn't hurt the look!
(Looked surprisingly good in dark mode as well, I have to say.)
update: thanks to @juniper for tracking down this exceptional resource for getting your old mac back on the road. most importantly, has a nice local proxy to get you TLS 1.3 ("Legacy Mac Proxy")

if you’ve got an old mac that has to remain on an older version of Mac OS X, you’ve probably noticed that all of its SSL based internet connections fail.
it’s due to expired root certificates, which you can update for free here:

just put this 10 year old macbook air back to work as my couch coding machine. it is blazingly fast running 10.9.x (Mavericks) with only 4GB ram and a 1.4ghz i5. for VS Code work it is about as perfect as I could ask for
fwiw: it runs like absolute shit on mojave!
Something different with another old page of the Apple site
