Heads up: Local law enforcement in the US may start rounding up homeless / houseless folk on or around April 2nd and jailing / imprisoning them.

We had a person in local govt overhear that the initiative is coming from the federal govt.

Not just sweeps. Not just your normal harassment. But a big initiative to remove them and lock them up.

I have *not* validated this. But keep an ear open in your local town to see if you're hearing similar.

Even if this specific initiative turns out to be false, the US federal govt has made it clear that the homeless / houseless are being targeted. Now is a good time to get involved in community efforts to feed and house them. Meet them as you are able and talk with them.

We need to protect our neighbors.

Edit: There's a lot you can do to stop this (and really any homeless sweep). Get involved. Get Quick React Teams up. If a sweep happens, you can go to the site and start slowing the police down. Be creative. Plenty of legal... ways to do this. But you'll need numbers for those on site.

As a new Arizonan, I have to recommend Tuscon for some Saguaros you will remember for the rest of your life.

In light of my finances and the condition of my rig, I'm staying in #Flagstaff until it cools off in #Quartzsite, so it has been 53 years since I have set foot in Tucson, probably can't even remember how to spell Tuscon any more, and am still telling you to check out the saguaros there.

In #VictoriaBC - you get in trouble from bylaw officers if you cook/feed the poor & houseless folks in Summer. You don't get in much trouble & usually left alone in cold, freezing weather in Winter because bylaw officers won't patrol much when conditions are miserable out. I learned that from past lived experiences when trying to cook outside to feed #hungry & #houseless folks.

I wouldn't feel the need to keep trying to feed people here if our governments, & our society as a whole, didn't treat houseless folks like they're not human & not deserving of kindness, compassion & understanding. Some of us citizens have got in trouble for trying to feed people - when the people trying to punish people like me aren't doing much to help feed & house the folks who need to be fed & housed the most.

I'm not a criminal. The heartless governments & ignorant people who #stigmatize hungry, houseless folks, while doing shit all to help out, are the real criminals in our society.

I will ALWAYS try to feed the hungry, without judgements. I hope more people will also go out to feed the hungry, without judgements. We - the grassroots citizens, who care - are local humanity in action. We need to keep trying to help folks in our own communities, as much as we can. We need to keep resisting the fascists who try to destroy our efforts.

Cruel fascists are no benefit to any community. Whether they're elected officials or not. The houseless are part of all of our communities. They don't deserve to be ignored & treated like lesser than humans.

Imagine how many of our fellow citizens are living in these conditions right now. No one, NO ONE, deserves to be houseless. People should be able to raise their hand and say I need a place to live, and our society should be able to provide them with it. The fact that we're not doing that is on all of us.

Kendra @SurvivingCFS When | lived in my car | parked in the lot of the local library all day and was never bothered, | used their bathroom throughout the day and they never asked any questions, | used the computers to sign up for food stamps and other programs, | picked the flowers around the lot and decorated my car with them, | went in and just RESTED sometimes. Public libraries are $00000 crucial in a community, in ways people don't even realize. Libraries are a safe space for so many people. They were my lifeline.

My dentist's office is 2 blocks away from the street encampments on Pandora in downtown #VictoriaBC. My dentist has provided a lot of free dental services to many of the #houseless folks who live in tents on this busy street. I wish everyone was as kind & compassionate.

#YYJ is a bourgeois government city & capital city of BC. There's so many empty buildings all around downtown core & also around the surrounding municipalities - which could be used as housing for many houseles individuals & houseless families.

Much of the so called new 'affordable housing' developments being built/built very recently are totally out of range for many folks who aren't even houseless. There's more than a few houseless folks who have either PT or FT jobs too. #StopHomelessnessStigma & #StopHouselessStereotypes 👍

Please keep putting pressure on your local, provincial & federal governments to fund more housing for houseless citizens.

Please don't be cruel to houseless folks & help them, if you can. Almost everyone is only a few paycheques or one horrible life changing accident away from being houseless.

Be kind 💗 You should never be looking down on anyone with less than you - unless you're giving them a hand up🙌

Auditors found that the shelters overseen by the Joint Office have waitlists that can stretch up to a year, are regularly at capacity and ineffective at moving people in shelters into permanent housing.
