I haven''t yet mentioned that I've finished translating the #Dhammapada from Påli into Scots.

My excitement is muted to non-existent, since I'm very conscious that this is just the first step in a long process of checking and rechecking to make sure the translation is complete, accurate, and (mostly) consistent.

Nevertheless it's a significant step, so Yay!

#Scotstober, Day 23. The day's wird is jo: here in the sense, "dear ane." A've yaised it in the saicont o twa linkt vairses fae the #Dhammapada.

219. Whan a body cams hame safe eftir a lang while faur furth, kin, kith, an guid freens rejeyce at his return.

220. Whan a body at daes guid has gaen fae this warld tae the neist, the guid they’ve duin coories them in, like a faimlie walcomes hame their jo.

Anither twa vairses fae ma ongaein translation o the Buddhist #Dhammapada fae Pāli into Scots.

221. Lea anger ahint ye. Gie up conceit. Escape aw bawns. Ane at disna cleek tae name-an-form* an owns naethin, unease disna befaw him.

222. The ane at restreens upwallin anger like a sweein chairiot, thon A cry a chairioteer. The lave are just haudin the reins.

Continuing with translating the #Buddhist #Dhammapada from Pāli into #Scots (#Scotsleid #ScotsLanguage #Lallans).

Here are three verses I translated yesterday (the third in a following comment, due to lack of space).

176. Ane at disna conseeder the neist warld, an transgresses wi juist ane thing — speakin faus — there’s nae ill they winna dae.

177. The meesurly dinna gang tae heiven, an the fuilish dinna praise giein. But the wyce enjoy giein, an sae are happy in the neist warld.

"All conditioned things are impermanent" — when one sees this with wisdom, one turns away from suffering. This is the path to purification.

"All conditioned things are unsatisfactory" — when one sees this with wisdom, one turns away from suffering. This is the path to purification.

"All things are not-self" — when one sees this with wisdom, one turns away from suffering. This is the path to purification.
