A quotation from Jefferson

Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body & mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day. altho’ I do not, with some enthusiasts, believe that the human condition will ever advance to such a state of perfection as that there shall no longer be pain or vice in the world, yet I believe it susceptible of much improvement, and, most of all, in matters of government and religion; and that the diffusion of knolege among the people is to be the instrument by which it is to be effected.

Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) American political philosopher, polymath, statesman, US President (1801-09)
Letter (1816-04-24) to Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours

Bodhi Linux Shows Off New Theme, Revived Modules

A ‘fresh new look’ is heading to Bodhi Linux, the Ubuntu-based Linux distribution built around the Moksha desktop, a fork of Enlightenment 17. Noting that the look of recent releases has leaned towards the dark side—no, not that one, Darth—the team has decide to give the next release a lighter visual revamp by making a new theme, called Zenithal, default. “Zenithal, developed by Štefan Uram and based on the Ice theme by Simotek, introduces a polished light aesthetic that brings a fresh energy to Moksha. It also marks a first for Bodhi: windows and dialogs with rounded edges,” they say. Bodhi Linux’s :sys_more_orange:

#ZenBuddhism emphasises direct #experience over scriptures or rituals. It teaches that #enlightenment is realised through #meditation in everyday actions. A famous saying is, “If you meet the #Buddha, kill him,” meaning not to cling to concepts. #Mukyōhō rejects hierarchy, viewing #Buddhist robes & ranks as hindrances. #HadakaShinzenyoku is practised as a path to #enlightenment through direct connection with #Nature.

These hindrances are subtle yet powerful. They reinforce ego, the illusion of separation, the belief in an enduring self-image. To discard them is to shed the weight of delusion, to become #naked not just in #body but in being. #Enlightenment is not found in accumulating but in relinquishing, not in covering but in exposing. Only by releasing these attachments does one fully enter the moment, #free from the sadness that arises from clinging to what was never real to begin with. (5/5)

To wear clothing is to create an illusion of separation between oneself & #Nature. It nurtures the duality of “self” & “other,” whereas #enlightenment is the realisation that such boundaries are illusory. Clothing becomes a means of self-concealment, an act of shame rather than an act of seeing. (2/5)

#HadakaShizenyoku, meaning ‘#Naked #Nature Bathing,’ is a core practice in #Mukyōhō #ZenBuddhism that directly engages with the #SixConsciousnesses to dissolve duality & reveal #Enlightenment in the present moment. Unlike conceptual #Zen practices that rely on intellectual understanding, #HadakaShizenyoku is experiential, using #Naked immersion in #Nature to awaken direct perception, free from the illusions of separation & self-imposed barriers. #裸自然浴 #無境法 #六識

There is no single “#Buddhist diet,” & dietary choices depend on individual practice, cultural influences, & regional traditions. The diversity in #Buddhist food practices reflects the broader philosophy of non-dogmatism. The #Buddha’s approach to food was pragmatic. He rejected extreme asceticism, including strict dietary restrictions, as unnecessary for #enlightenment. He taught the Middle Way, avoiding both indulgence & rigid self-denial. (12/21)

#Mukyōhō, (‘No Boundaries Way’), is a school of #ZenBuddhism. It rejects traditional hierarchies, lineages, & formal ranks, seeing them as human constructs that hinder #enlightenment. #Mukyōhō teaches that #enlightenment isn’t attained through rituals or wearing robes but through direct experience of #Nature. #Nakedness is central, symbolising #equality & #oneness with existence, rejecting #societal constructs that create separation.
