As #ClimateChange accelerates, cities like #Valencia face devastating #floods, with costs projected to reach $63 billion annually by 2050. The deadly October 2024 floods exposed the toll of #WetlandLoss, #UrbanSsprawl, and poor planning. Wetlands once absorbed rainwater and slowed runoff, but urban development has destroyed these natural barriers.
Lessons from #Chennai and #Kochi, where wetland restoration reduced flood risks, show how ecosystems can help protect coastal cities. Valencia could follow these examples, but with costs soaring, it’s clear: #ClimateAction and prevention would have been far cheaper than recovery.
