I’m on my third distro: Linux Mint, and it has been so easy to try out different distros and finding the right fit.
I ended up using Mint, because of the age of the computer I have borrowed. I would have loved to stay with Manjaro Gnome, which felt really nice. But Bitwig wouldn’t run (not enough ram).
On Mint I could install Bitwig from the App installer, one click, and Pipewire made the audio work out of the Box.
This was more easy than I thought!

Ngl, one of the downsides of #LinuxAudio is fewer plugins with pretty GUIs that make me believe my music sounds better now.

Finally got around to making a nice thick chorus in Max/MSP (instead of just copying the single-delay one from the documentation). It's based on the Sony DPS-M7 Deca chorus and has 5 taps per channel, with complex panning of them on the output:

The plug-in in question: RM-2 by 5dB5. This thing sounds surprisingly gorgeous for the price. Whatever anti-aliasing it has got, it does it well. The controls are suitable for subtle tone-shaping, sweetening, anything you'd use a preamp for.

If you want to turn a Raspberry Pi or Linux computer into a music instrument or an installation piece, then you need to consider how to start your software when power is turned on. This is surprisingly hard, but we've made it a bit easier with a small guide with tips and tricks and an example of booting directly into a #SuperCollider program once powered on.

It's just the nature of trying to be creative and push myself on the results... unless some kind of unpredictable magic happens the result normally just stays on the hard drive on my PC. #musicproduction
I'm still convinced that being willing to ultimately abandon most of what I produce is the only way I can overcome my own limitations and have a chance to release stuff that's better than mediocre and actually worth listening to. Definitely feeling the importance of blind optimism and determination (to be honest that last comment doesn't just relate to perfectionism in #musicproduction ).
