EU AI Act, approved today despite opposition from states, bans emotion-recognition systems in edu institutions, and destroys startups and companies, including mine.
It’s a massive fail on part of European educators and technologists, that affective learning agents are lumped with AIs scraping CCTV to build facial recog databases.
It destroys so much value, and denies benefits particularly to learners with special needs.

The company Cogito, for instance, sells software to call centers that records and then analyzes calls between employees and customers, with a real-time behavioral dashboard that tells the employees when to be more empathetic, when to pick up the pace, and when to ‘exude more confidence and professionalism.’”
