Half the time
As I sit in disarray
I am thinking of a dream I never had
The Teardrop Explodes - Wilder (1981)
For Friday 15 Nov 2024 the Jukebox Friday Night theme is "Bend Break Burn".
Things getting bent out of shape, breaking down, or burning up and so on, and how we deal with it.
Looks like a cyclic theme … Bend!
The Teardrop Explodes, "Bent Out of Shape" (1981)
"All my life I've been bent outta shape
Course it comes as no surprise
These are dreams that I never had
See the lines around my eyes …"

THE TEARDROP EXPLODES - REWARD
"Reward" was a breakout single for The Teardrop Explodes, released in 1981. It reached number 6 in the UK charts and was originally featured on the US release of their debut album, Kilimanjaro. The song's mix of driving rhythms, catchy melodies, and a trumpet solo made it a standout hit.
#GreatAlbums1980s - #TheTeardropExplodes – Kilimanjaro (1980). Like fellow Liverpudlians Echo & the Bunnymen, Teardrop coalesced around a preening frontman, Julian Cope, and a style combining post-punk with 60s outliers like the Doors and the Seeds. Peak moments – "Treason," "Books," and "Reward" (on the reissue only) – felt cathartic and grandiose, with Cope emoting like technopop Iggy over wall-of-sound arrangements anticipating "the Big Music" of later years.
Wishing a megalithic birthday to Avebury resident, musician, antiquarian and writer #JulianCope, born this day in 1957.

A sailing ship has run aground
And confidence is valued in these days"

Out walking and listening to #TheTeardropExplodes Wilder - realising it has marked itself into my soul with a deep groove - just that one album - but still resonating so much
