Talking about dyeing with plants... Here is the easiest way to get a nice plant print on fabric. Toddler shirts with unexplainable stains made me try to put more stains on those shirts to prolong their life just a bit. I'm trying to use everything until it lasts and reuse, recycle and upcycle to last a little longer, waste less, buy less. I hate to throw out those perfectly usable shirts that just look terribly dirty because of plant, fruit and berry stains that happens in enormous amounts for kids who live outdoors whole summer long. Well, pretty plant stains put on shirts with the hammer stay pretty for about 3-4 times in the washing machine.
I was dreaming to hammer plants on a table cloth last summer, but I didn't get there. This is an easy way to get the juices of plants on textiles you aren't planning to wash too often. Doll fabrics, a tie, maybe... altar cloths?
It's also a productive way to release anger, frustration and agression. I hope you will give it a try.

'The Scottish Register of Tartans has reached a significant milestone as it added the ten thousandth tartan design to its database.
The milestone design was the 131 Argyle tartan, registered by the Diocesan Boys’ School of Hong Kong. The tartan celebrates the school’s long history since its founding in in 1869.'

The #GatherFiberSymposium got noticed by the local media! We were psyched that they invited our lace group in to their month of fiber art celebrations. There are a ton of great events going on.
More details from The Boston Globe (or search archive.youknow for an unpaywalled version).

"[Mae] Colburn’s mother is a clothing historian and her dad is a photographer so the project spoke to their collective skills. Together the family has catalogued and photographed 632 vintage wool skirts. The physical archive is in Colburn’s Brooklyn studio—which is occasionally open to the public for viewing—and the digital archive is online."

From lengths of rope sometimes measuring thousands of meters, designer Svea Tisell, founder of the Kryss studio, creates unique furniture objects in which craft traditions and contemporary design converge.
Finished this wrap a while ago but haven't been in a posting mood 'til now. This is 36 ends per inch in wool. The final length was a bit shy of two yards. I gave it to a friend who's helped me though some really difficult times recently, and it felt so good to give her a physical manifestation of my time, care, and attention.
I'm excited about weaving more fine fabric like this. Right now I'm setting up something thicker but still pretty fine, an Angora nylon blend at 24 epi. #textiles #weaver #weaving #fiberarts #wool #plainweave #loom
I dyed a t-shirt for bob using low-water immersion after tying it in little bunches with water-soluble thread. The idea of using the water-soluble thread was to avoid white marks — I wanted it to just be “different” in some way in the tied parts, but not to block the dye completely. (Also I didn’t want to have to untie it all afterwards.)
The low-water immersion worked nicely to split out the constituent red (magenta) and blue (cobalt blue) parts of the dye, giving lots of different purples, and the little tied bunches ended up looking like cells or neurons (according to bob).
Photos here of the tied t-shirt before going in the dye bath, plus a close-up and not-close-up of the results. bob has a photo of him wearing it which no doubt he will post in this thread at some point.
