I keep forgetting how banging it is to have an actual Roland SC-88 synth on your desk.

Whenever I play a Doom 2 wad that has midi music I go "OH SHIT RIGHT" and absolutely vibe. It is the sound that embodies PC Gaming in the 90s fully for me, and it pleases my dark heart.

I thought this would be an easy fix - using a Pi Zero-format RP2040 board in my MiniDexed EuroRack module...

... but it ended up an afternoon of frustration and unfortunately I still can't get it making sound or booting reliably.

It does look cool though :)

Can I just say what a delight it is to work with the MIDI spec. I’m not kidding.

For a recent project I was using Ruby to manipulate a MIDI file.I had to learn about how to calculate note lengths based on MIDI events, and although at first it made my head hurt I can to see the genius that went into this spec. No wonder it's been around so long.
