Starting a raid validation on my external storage, for no reason other than peace of mind. Read and compare all the blocks. I do this every 6-9 months.

Hmm, the drives have about 60K runtime hours, and the raid set was created almost 7 years ago. Those numbers align. Wonder when these disks are going to start failing.

I do have one cold spare, and the raid set is 4 in a RAID 1+0 config. It doesn't get much abuse, just my primary photography data store.

There's also the separate near-line, off-line, and cloud backups of course.

Randomly getting nostalgic about Microsoft Bob this morning... If you search for Microsoft Bob on YouTube you'll get results like "Was it really that bad?" "Just how bad WAS it?"

Hot take: it was amazing! It's so underappreciated! But it seems like it was obviously for kids (my brother and I LOVED it) with all of the fun house decorating and secret doors and passwords... kids love that shit. It was just marketed wrong. #retro #1990s #90s #90sComputing #HomeComputing

This #MaySiXth #MSXDay I'm introducing almost-five-years-old #BeardGrabber to #MSX games again. He's probably the same age now as when my parents got our #Philips #NMS8250 #MSX2 #homecomputer, and now, probably about 35 years later, he gets to play on the very same machine, playing the same original copies as I got or bought during my childhood, which feels quite special. 💙
So far we've played some #BubbleBobble, #Brisk and now #PinballBlaster. His #joystick and #keyboard control isn't good yet, but he's still very much enjoying the experience! 💚

I also have some videos of him playing, but I need some time to review the footage to make sure it doesn't show kiddo's face and such. :)

In a reddit thread discussing an old Beagle Bros sticker attached to the default computery sticker location for every schoolchild -- the front of a floppy disk storage box -- a former tech support employee of the company chimed in in the comments and shared a nice little glimpse of the company from the inside.

Thanks, r/LlaughingLlama
