Having acquired that lovely new #guitar, of course I felt like taking it for wee spin in #Garageband & see what that feels & sounds like - and this little riff / loop came out of my fingers... 😁

Both knobs are volume, one for each pickup, which I'm finding to be extremely versatile, especially since they already have such a rich sound 🎸 I recorded that little melody thing twice with different mix of the PUs, which I think produced a very interesting, thick sound 👂

So, my old 2012 Macbook Pro, which I use for #Garageband, is sputtering a bit & I have a mind to strip it down to factory settings & install nothing but GB (I managed to convince my Apple account that I have it & can re-download it - 'twas a hassle, ask if you need to know) 🎶

Now I just have to do it right, including writing down & re-acquiring many, many plugins, because I was well into this adventure before it occurred to me to keep those installers... 😝

OK, so I fell behind a few days on the #ACPG 30-day challenge 😝 but when I got to day 16 I couldn't help myself but combine it with day 3 (sort-of), in keeping with my thing of turning simple exercises into little sort-of musical snippets 🎶

Yup, VERY basic stuff, but...

A. basics are important

B. it still sounds pretty dang musical for just an exercise & music is what we're doing this for, innit

C. it's still a lot of fun 😁

Been doing this thing lately where I turn little #guitar exercises into a sort-of tiny, dumb little piece of #music - I find it provides a motivating framework for playing the thing over & over, record & listen to it & try to find out how to suck marginally less at it...

- and also it's pretty fun 😁

- and also I get a bit of #Garageband practice 😁

This. This is the kind of #tech thing that drives me up the fucking walls.

For months I've been recording with #Garageband on my other, even older Macbook Pro & it's been working just fine - and then just the past few weeks, with absolutely nothing changed; no software or systems updates, no new peripherals, not even using any new plugins, suddenly it's started hiccuping during recording & the input signal becomes latent, which obviously makes recording impossible...

Fucking WHY!? 🤬🤬🤬

Using Mac iPad or IPhone, how might I drop a marker in realtime as I listen to or record a track?

I see how you can set arrangement markers or sections after the fact while mixing or editing, but I’m interested in a workflow that allows me to note an area as I’m listening or recording to come back to, attend to, later.

Something simple as a tap or keypress. I thought maybe another track just tapping a mic into that track could work.

Can any #GarageBand users out there confirm something for me?

If you use a regular mouse with a scroll wheel, are you able to zoom in/out on the tracks by pressing Cmd or something else? Because I'm not able to do it, which is annoying.

Works fine with pinch etc on a trackpad, but I'm using a mouse.

Apparently my current thing in the Music Corner™️ is laying down backing tracks for songs I like in #Garageband so I can practice the #guitar parts & it's SO MUCH FUN! & also extremely good practice... turns out I've been cheating quite a lot playing along with recordings, where there's always a Robben Ford / Lonnie Mack / John Mayer / Angus Young / Steffen Schackinger / Johnny Winter etc. to pick up the slack when I fumble 😝

I know that to many True Guitarists™️ amp modelers are an inferior substitute at best, but realtalk: Having spent my entire almost 4-decade #guitar life on zero-to-negative budget I've tried very little gear for more than a few minutes & being able to finally take my time playing around with amps, even just simulations, in both my Vox VT-20 & #Garageband / plugins, I am finally just beginning to learn what all the fuss is about... 😂🎸

Continued thread

To be clear, I'm frustrated to anger because this is so fucking cool: You can literally run MPC Beats *inside #Garageband* as an AU plugin, massively expanding what you can already to with GB 🤯 but the side-by-side experience in user friendliness is nothing if not massively jarring...

Also, "It's for pros" is no excuse. So is the Affinity suite & DaVinci Resolve - just because an app is powerful it doesn't mean it has to be impossible to use without a manual open on the table. #ux #tech

Hey guys, what is this?

Like I get strong garage band vibes here, especially from that bass guitar. Less than ideal mixing, imperfect (but not bad) voice control, etc, but it's actually not half bad.

Thing is, their actual images are 100% "AI" generated, their page has next to no info, etc. I don't think "AI" generated music has reached this level yet though and even if it had, surely it wouldn't be able to emulate garage band styles, right? So is this like an actual garage band or something or what is going on here? Wouldn't a garage band still have some info on their page?

I followed the link to the other page of course, but still not exactly a whole lot of info there!

@socks maybe you can help me here.
