Been hibernating for a while, as all good bears do. Here's an entirely overripe Chanukah thought:

How many nights could the oil have conceivably lasted before we decided it was just too damn many candles for us to put on a menorah every year?

End of one year, beginning of the next...

Close-up of a filled menorah, burning the last-night candles. The menorah is made of ceramic (by my mother-in-law): the main body is a dark brown ribbon, with slots for the candles behind, and in the middle is a sort of white medallion with some pseudo-Hebrew squiggles. The candles are a golden beeswax, and the whole ensemble is sitting a little gracelessly on a sheet of tinfoil on an old cookie sheet. Good glow-in-the-darkness though!

Photo from a hike along the Wissahickon taken with my dog. The dog (a large Bernedoodle, mostly black with a white muzzle and tan legs and eyebrows, facing the right but turned to look at the photographer) is centered on a dirt section of the path, bordered by low stones. Beyond are two thicker tree trunks among many thin ones, nearly empty of leaves. Sharp eyes mighth pick out, in the very far distance, a blue-painted highway bridge way above the unseen river.

A fully lit chanukiyah for night eight. It is short, and each candle and the shamash have a plastic kitty in front. The kitties are different colors like white, orange, grey. The shamash kitty is in a cat tree. The chanukiyah is on a cute kitty tray that shows kittens sitting in a garden.

Happy Chanukah! I got these socks as a gift and they are nice and cozy. Sprockles got the box as a gift and it is nice and cozy.
