Zorin OS 17.3 Release Replaces Firefox With Brave as Default Browser
@itsfoss

「 We start off with Brave being the new default web browser on Zorin OS, marking a move away from Firefox. The developers did this citing concerns with a recent policy change by Mozilla, where they felt that Firefox no longer aligned with their values of protecting user privacy 」

It's FOSS News · Zorin OS 17.3 Release Replaces Firefox With Brave as Default BrowserCheck out what the latest Zorin OS release has to offer!

I'm not convinced, that integrating #Brave instead of #Firefox into #Zorin OS 17.3 is the best move. Even though they chose to hide most of the browser’s problematic features (e.g., Brave Wallet, Brave Rewards, Leo AI, Brave Talk, Brave News, Brave’s sponsored background images, etc).

. @lproven 's post is basically an advert for @brave and why I recommend #Brave.

Most of the criticisms of Brave Browser are either not actual criticisms of Brave, or are issues that have long since been fixed because the people behind Brave were experimenting with ways to fund a company to build an independent web browser and nevertheless listened to the complainers / whiners.

Lol, I was right into thinking there was something "off" about #ZorinOS years ago when I was considering which #Linux distro to migrate away from #Windows. Shitty, reactionary decisions like this would turn me off so badly and seriously make me question their judgement. If they actually care about "privacy" and have issues with #Firefox (or rather, #Mozilla), something like #LibreWolf would've been a more natural choice rather than moving to a #Chromium based browser, as if #Google needs a stronger dominance in their web presence - let alone #Brave.

#words #Brave #anticipatorynostalgia #mononoaware

#Brave browser for desktop has the best AI chat integration, as it allows you to configure your LLM, so you can use your Mistral account, or a local LLM via `ollama`. And “summarize this page” works flawlessly.

Any reliable, preferably FOSS, extensions for #Firefox or #Chrome that do the same?

@jpkolsen @forteller @ideaferace I'm also using #Qwant. It's ok, but it's really annoying that the ads blend in with the real search results, and there's not an option to pay to remove them.
#Startpage looks ok, but as I understand it is using american search engines and partly owned by american companies.
I consider trying out good-search.org. Costs a small amount each month, and is using results from the #Brave search engine. Not sure if that's good or bad.
