High level #brake light stopped working last night - found broken cable in loom between C-pillar and tailgate (this is a common problem due to the boot being constantly opened and shut). Managed to splice cable (after initial hassle with a duff splice I had to cut off and being left with even shorter bit at the tailgate end to work with. Tested the fix, wrapped splices and extra cable piece with Tesa tape and put the grommet back on..

Two #BritishAsian brothers from SE #England (they are #pinoys) fix a somewhat battle scarred 2010 #Mercedes #Sprinter #van and save it from the scrapyard (the #turbo is goosed and needed replacing), their video also explains how a #turbocharger works and what can go wrong with it #mechanic #MobileMechanic #CarMaintenance #AutoRepair

Even if you aren't that into in #cars this is impressive work. I was expecting the #Chinese mechanics to just replace the oil pan and gaskets, not haul out the whole entire #EA888 #engine from the #VW #Scirocco and strip and #overhaul every component (like what used to happen more often in #garages here in 1970s/80s). They are using a mix of old skool skills, and modern computerised tools I have not even seen in many Western workshops..

British #Police working alongside #USA #feds nick 3 men in East #London with a stash of fake #airbags and very large amounts of #cash ! If they were only selling dodgy airbags and not #drugs or anything else thats potentially a very worrying number of fake parts which could have found their way into cars across the #UK and possibly worldwide...

So I replaced the valve cover on my car's leaky engine a few weekends ago.

I've never done any auto repair work before so it was kind of a daunting job and ended up taking up an entire Friday and Saturday, but I did it!

So far so good and saved ~$1400 (even factoring in time and tools.)

BMWs seem to fall the fuck apart at around 70k miles, and there are still other problems that need to be fixed so... "to be continued" i guess...

Modular batteries ftw - "On average, a damaged Tesla costs $1,347 more to repair than a damaged gas-powered car, but a damaged EV from another automaker costs just $269 more.

Why the difference?... [Tesla uses] a long, wide battery pack mounted under the floor, which takes up much of the same footprint as the car. It’s the most expensive part of the vehicle, and many accidents damage it.

Some automakers, knowing this, have designed modular batteries. Technicians can open them and replace just a few cells or place working cells in a new casing for less than the cost of a new battery.

Tesla batteries aren’t modular and must be replaced entirely if they are lightly damaged."

Location of 7,5A fuse for windscreen washer pump motor (in orange oval) for RHD #VWPolo 6C (fixed this for a work colleague after the last cold spell as fuse had opened, probably due to screenwash freezing in the jets and motor stalling).

This fusebox is found behind the plastic cover below steering wheel and above pedals.

If you are in a country which drives on the right, this is flipped 180 degrees, the fuse you want will be on far left rather than far right.

In todays #carrepair: #Renault #Scenic II part number 8200500323 removal.

To access the antenna, the head liner needs to be removed partially. To remove the head liner, the plastic side covers need to be removed, first (on both sides). There are a LOT of plastic clips and just a few torx 20 screws. The trunk light needs to be unplugged. The white plastic parts can stay in the car. I had to be careful to remove the trunk window area plastic parts from the white supporting part. The clips are quite hard to undo.

If you want a good reason to figure out how to clear the drain tube on your #car sunroof, imagine if this were the carpet/foam in your car. Clean it out once a year at minimum - pulling this out was as far from fun as it gets. #autorepair
