Not being able to edit #wikipedia when using a #vpn is irritating for me, and likely a real barrier for others.
Where do I put my vote to drop it, at least for confirmed editors?
@douginamug You can request to get your user exempt here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/IP_block_exempt
@ainali thanks! But I might change my IP with my VPN automatically or out of necessity.
Do you know what stops confirmed users, logged in, from being allowed to edit?
@douginamug This is exempting your *user* from *all* IP blocks. So it doesn't matter if it changes.
@ainali ohh! That'll teach me to reply before reading. Thanks!
Just requested an IP block exemption for my account

You have to send an email request to the 'checkuser VRT team'. Let's see how this goes...
@douginamug And to answer your question, I don't know.
If I guessed, but it is really just a guess, it's because it is almost trivial to get an account to confirmed user status and thus would make it too easy to avoid blocks from the usually malicious actors that the block is aimed to stop.
