I'm trying to "cast" my laptop's screen (Debian+GNOME) to my living room TV, either to an HDMI dongle or to the RPi connecting to it (LibreElec+Kodi) *without* resorting to a Chromecast and ideally only using FOSS.
It's revealing to be surprisingly difficult. Any suggestions?
@zacchiro I've used vlc to stream desktop before to kodi before.
Nice gui guide. I've got an old crusty script that does it on mine.
@AMS this sounds promising, but I'm unclear on the sink part: how to play the stream from Kodi? (note: it doesn't have a decent browser add-on when running on Linux/RPi)
@zacchiro Toss the URL in a .strm file and open it in the file browser.

You can also use the JSON-RPC thing to open the url directly https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=155888
@AMS ok, cool, I'll give it a try, thanks. But now that I think of this, by default VLC will not stream audio together with the desktop capture. Or am I missing something?
@zacchiro I have no idea on that one.
