If you follow #meme you get a lot of memes in different languages which makes it impossible to understand them.
I suggest adding English alt text into the #meme pictures or better adding the text into the post, then the translate feature could help.

Another approach would be to tag with a country shortcut like

#meme_en
#meme_de
#meme_es
#meme_fr

Then people could follow their language.
