"In an interview with The Michigan Daily, [Professor Hang] Lu said he found the results were surprising. The extraversion-targeting messages performed just as well, and sometimes even better, than professionally developed generic corrections. But messages tailored to address pseudoscientific beliefs about vaccines not only failed to help but sometimes backfired. "

If you are #skeptical that these sorts of large-scale, centrally-planned #interventions can solve social problems that have existed in #human #societies for hundreds or thousands of years, then you fall towards the bottom end of the #rationalism axis.

If you think about your #beliefs in these two areas, you might find yourself #surprised at where you fit on the chart, and what other belief systems fall near you. It's a lot more #insightful than the #meaningless left-right single axis.

"Understanding and combatting #misinformation across 16 countries on six continents" out today in Nature Human Behavior! There have been a huge number of msinfo-related studies in the past 5 or so years, but almost all of them have been US/Western populations. So here we examined the #psychology of #misinformation, and the effectiveness of various #interventions, across 16 countries (total N=34k).

We find:
➤Consistent #cognitive, #social & #ideological predictors of misinfo belief across countries
➤Interventions (accuracy prompts, digital literacy tips, using crowdsourcing to identify misinfo) are all broadly effective across countries

Give it a read and let me know what you think! rdcu.be/dfGtT

Just finished ‘Evaluating What Works’ by @deevybee & Paul Thompson. A really good primer on how to evaluate #interventions and, despite the speech and language therapy context, I found it highly relevant to #psychology & #metaresearch.

I’ll be adding this to my module’s reading list, but unfortunately I can’t put it on my Goodreads :ablobcatcry:
