Dejé una reseña de #GoogleMaps en #GooglePlay indicando todo lo que va mal en esta aplicación, y me la han borrado porque "errores de cartografía absurdos como identificar incorrectamente el golfo de México" viola el punto "Las reseñas no deben contener comentarios políticos ni sociales" de la políticas de publicación de valoraciones y reseñas de Google Play.
Los dueños de #Google tiene los cojonazos del tamaño del #MountDenali.

In den Bergen oder auch anderswo im Gelände bin ich oft mit Offline-Karten unterwegs z.B. mit #OrganicMaps oder #OSMand. In Albanien habe ich z.B. unterwegs damit ganz einfach Trinkwasserquellen gefunden und konnte meine Flaschen regelmäßig wiederbefüllen, mit wohlschmeckendem Quellwasser. Musste nicht eine (Plastik-)Flasche Wasser kaufen!
#GoogleMaps habe ich schon sehr lange auf meinen Geräten blockiert. Nun ist mir das wichtiger als je zuvor.

Ci sono due domini di Pagine Gialle:

  • <shop.pagingialle.it> che è un sito di shopping online, dove ci si può anche registrare come venditori.
  • <paginegialle.it> che sono le classiche pagine gialle per la ricerca delle ragioni sociali per città o indirizzo, con visualizzazione su mappa (Openstreetmap messo a disposizione da tuttocitta.it)

Great new alternative to Google Maps - Magic Earth

Dutch company, clearly states "privacy first, we will not profile you" and shows no trackers in exodus reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/

They have a non-creepy business model with business customers in the micro mobility sector.

And it works! Great navigation, and businesses are on the map (with links to their websites). Map data is from OpenStreetMap.

For using the #GoogleMaps cloud platform API I have to obtain a session (smart move, providing in advance an API_KEY (expected) and many things like preferences (OK!).

Then, for accessing the tile API, I've to provide the session (OK)… and the API_KEY again… WHY??

Google Maps just dropped a new feature using AI to add crossings. It's an imperfect step in the right direction.

Interesting story about how Google Maps has been mislabeling some Canadian provincial and local parks as ‘state parks.’

It turns out that it’s been an issue for some time, but Google is now has a greater sense of urgency to correct this.

And today I was reminded that ‘cartographic bias’ is a thing that needs more scrutiny and calling out.

I'm looking for an alternative to #GoogleMaps for #navigation.

Required:
- Can search destination/origin by business name (or other features, like a trail name), not only by address.
- Allows downloading maps for offline usage.
- Accounts for live traffic (if online).
- No data harvesting. Otherwise I would just stay with GMaps.
- Android Auto.

Nice to have:
- Signal what's the most fuel/energy efficient route.

I'm fine with it being a paid service or being closed source.
