🚨 "I was really gonna bang my head on the counter." – Eric Reilly, proving brotherly love is slightly unhinged.

Lucas’ team is winning, but he’s drowning in guilt. Eric’s memory is failing, and it’s his fault. No celebrations. Just silence.

"The Head Game" Chapter 49, "Who Are You?" is a brutal look at the cost of one reckless moment. #HockeyAngst #BrotherlyGuilt #SportsFiction #wattpad #StanleyCup #NHL #Concussion

Quick update on myself medically.
History: On 19th February 2021 I received a concussion, and developed Post Concussion Syndrome.
Most of the symptoms faded over the years, but this year they came back strongly.
These days my mind is so focussed, but only for 4-6 hours. After that time I totally fade and need to nap to "reset my brain". Once napped I am good to go again.
I informed my Primary Care and she:
a) Referred me back to Baptist Health Neurology. That appointment is on 18 June 2025.
b) Wrote a note for my Director and HR Director at God's Pantry Food Bank:
"To Whom It May Concern: Please allow Peter Paterson (04/30/1967) to work from home as needed as he is recovering from post-concussion syndrome and requires frequent rest. If there are any further questions please contact our office."
My Directors have worked with me, and allowing me to work split days and work from home days.

Today I shall be going into work for at least 4 hours, catch up on Friday's paperwork, come on home, nap, eat lunch, and work for the rest of my 8 hours remotely. #FoodBank

Take care of yourself my friends and for ALL around you.

A study of about 8,500 persons who were hospitalized for concussion before age 17, compared to a reference group that were hospitalized for other injuries, found that the group with concussions collectively had lower educational attainment and were 15% less likely to attend college.

This is SHOCKING SHIT! At the 16.58 min mark, this #documentary addresses race norming, factoring in the non-existent myth of '#race' when diagnosing players with #cognitiveimpairment who are also racialised as 'black'

@ai6yr An excellent resource! The Brain Injury Alliance of America (www.biausa.com) is another great resource for the public.

And a shameless plug for #Colorado: the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado has a website with fantastic educational resources for kids, adults, and service providers, including symptoms, recovery/management, school re-entry, etc. (biacolorado.org).

Years ago, I knew a professional wrestler who used to come over to my place to hang out and watch movies. He did a lot of hardcore matches in the ring: fluorescent light smashing, wrestling in thumbtacks or barbed wire, and all sorts of other bouts which resulted in a lot of blood.

I love wrestling, but not that kind. This guy was all sorts of fucked up. I'm pretty sure he was a masochist and this is how he fed that need. He couldn't raise one of his arms over his head because of all the damage done to his shoulder. He also had some significant brain damage from multiple concussions. He told me this manifested in amnesia.

As an example, he woke up in bed with a woman one morning. He looked all around and saw a bedroom with evidence of them both living there. "I guess she must be my girlfriend," he figured. He had no memory of her at all, but just went with it.

He used to visit me about once a week. Then he stopped without warning. I suspect he forgot he knew me.

It's been 14 days since my concussion. I got the stitches out. I can read a book and look at a screen again. The memory loss and haziness are gone. I feel normal most of the time.

However, weird things continue to happen. I felt a little tired at 2:30 this afternoon, so I lay down -- and woke up 8 hours later. Sometimes I get a blinding headache. My head spins in a moving vehicle.

I do not recommend head trauma. Not even mild head trauma -- which means you don't have seizures or vomit uncontrollably, not that your other symptoms are mild. So my advice is remember to duck, wear a helmet, go slow on your bike.
