“Zarah Sultana just SHAMED every other MP over Labour’s #DWP benefit cuts”

by Ed Sykes in The Canary @thecanaryuk @UKLabour

“Independent MP Zarah #Sultana has stressed that, amid the Labour government’s current DWP austerity drive targeting disabled people, it is ‘simply wrong’ for MPs to be getting an ‘inflation-busting pay rise’ of £2,558, bringing their already excessive salary to £93,904 per year”

“Wes Streeting and the Guardian just got the treatment they deserved at a live event”

by Steve Topple in The Canary @thecanaryuk @UKLabour

“Therefore, it was good to see him [Streeting] getting shouted down by the very people his government’s policies will be affecting. And, we can expect to see even more of this type of resistance over the next few months”

@frantictdrinker I think a good measure of the dishonesty about all this is their claim that the purpose is to stop people being written off and help sick & disabled people to work…

…while slashing most from PIP, the benefit payable regardless of employment status, which is all that enables many disabled people to stay in work

This is performative cruelty for fascist voters & brainless fiscal “responsibility”: nothing more, nothing less

Lest we forget:

“Keir Starmer is without moral rectitude. He is a deceiver, utterly duplicitous, a political confidence trickster, and he surrounds himself with equally iniquitous and unvirtuous carpetbaggers, warmongers, and anti-socialist Machiavellian pantomime characters, such as the weasel Streeting.”

“Just as Labour announced £6bn cuts, the DWP reveals it’s stripped 170,000 kids of benefits - Universal Credit disaster”

by Steve Topple in The Canary @thecanaryuk @UKLabour

“It remains to be seen what has happened to the 170,000 children and their families now they’ve been stripped of their entitlements. Of course, to the DWP and Labour – they’ve saved money, so it’s a win-win”

@RichardJMurphy my thoughts exactly

There are a number of highly principled, effective MPs on the left of the Labour Party, or now independent, having been purged completely or disciplined temporarily

Whether it’s as independents allied with other progressives or, my preference as a GP member, defecting to join the Greens, they could be far more effective, and presumably feel more fulfilled, leaving the #torycontinuityparty to continue digging its political grave
