Why is spaghetti such a locus of speculation and study for physicists?

For one, it's simple – flour, water and heat, says Vishal Patil ...a professor of mathematics at the University of California, San Diego. The fact that a combination of so few components raises so many deep questions speaks to how physics underlies everything they see and do, Patil says.

And on another note, the male hearts, minds and bellies were very pleased this week that Mom made fresh tomato sauce and homemade “Beefaroni”. Roma tomatoes cooked down but not puréed. The noodles here are short, fat elbow type. If anyone wants to know my secret for how to make our pasta taste like Beefaroni but is more nutritious, look at the second photo and guess. Homemade pasta with tomato sauce. Closeup with iPhone. Noodle are short fat tubes. Sauce is spaghetti sauce from an inexpensive can, and added fresh cooked tomatoes. I added ground beef, browned and crumbled, 1/2 cup ketchup, 3/4 cup grated Parmesan and the sauce was simmered on low heat until the cheese mostly melted.
