#Tether, a company whose capital probably comes from #China and which earns 5% interest on ~$100 billion for doing nothing, has been branching out and investing in:

1. a chinese bitcoin transaction processor (some call them "miners") manufacturer #Bitdeer

2. random agriculture companies in argentina with a sub 3% ROI (less than Tether would get doing nothing and collecting 5%) t.co/R15JFCMRhD

3. #Satellogic, a manufacturer of spy satellites that is currently losing $30-50 million per year (much less than the guaranteed 5%)

to say this is shady would be an understatement but it is of a piece with some of Tether's other recent bailouts of allegedly fraudulent companies like #NorthernData

Tether has made significant investments in 2024, highlighting the purchase of a US $ 100 million stake in the mining company of Bitcoin Bitdeer, owned by Chinese billionaire Jihan Wu, with the option of acquiring an additional US $ 50 million in shares within one year. Also, in April, Tether Investments Limited led a strategic investment of 30 million dollars in the Argentine Satellogic (SATL), through secured convertible notes, providing greater operational liquidity and financial flexibility for the company specialized in Earth observation.
USDT issuer Tether has acquired a 9.8% stake in Latin American agricultural giant Adecoagro for $100 million to diversify its investments into the agriculture and food sectors. Adecoagro is a major milk producer in Argentina and manages more than 193,000 hectares of sugarcane crops in Brazil, producing refined sugar and ethanol. sec.gov/Archives/ edgar...
