I hope it was a slow and painful departure. And if there’s an afterlife, I hope he suffers there to eternity too.

The last time a British Monarch and a Roman Catholic Pope died in the same year was in 1830: George IV died on 26.06 and Pius VIII on 30.11.

Rest in peace, Pope Benedict XVI.

No pope is perfect, for starters. His understanding and teaching about liturgy was formative for me. He was the only pope I've seen in person (thus far) and will forever grace our home as the pope granting an apostolic blessing for our wedding.

May the angels take him to his Creator with all due haste.
