@geerlingguy for us as wireless community mesh network people with @freifunk for instance, #DFS is still a big problem, we still can't use 5GHz outdoor for a #MeshNetwork. I'm wondering if the #FCC were to delete DFS if maybe this could lead to some rethinking here in Europe with the #ETSI or in Germany with the @BNetzA, too.
@Polychrome #Qaul comes to my mind, it's in development for quite some time: https://qaul.net/. But haven't really used it myself yet. What I did use successfully is @mwarning 's simplistic #Meshenger: https://github.com/meshenger-app/meshenger-android
But despite its name it doesn't have a built-in #mesh feature, you'd need to use it over a layer 2 #MeshNetwork like @batadv / #Freifunk. Similarly, for texting instead of voice @pidgin's #Bonjour Chat comes to my mind (but I think there is no Android app for it yet?)

I'm excited to check out @HSBXL tomorrow evening, while I'm in #Brussels for a few days. Last time I visited @HSBXL was for the @battlemesh v2 in 2009 and it got me deep into the #meshnetwork|s and esp. @batadv rabbit hole :D. You can tell I'm from Yorkshire. Commercial 3d boxes cost twice as much as the cost of the radio itself, so I drilled some holes in the original box it came in. Job done 
in 2004 we dreamed of a "free internet" that would actually connect you directly with the home hosted website of the local shop/library/friend without going through big commercial providers, using wifi to #meshnetwork the world ... now we just hope people realise their minds are captive of ad-driven fascists foreign megacorp and try to escape in sufficient numbers before it all explode ...

One of my first open source patches was for @pidgin, to fix some #IPv6 and #Bonjour / #mDNS issues in it. Bonjour chat and file transfer would allow to do so without needing a central server while we were on our decentral, layer 2 #batman_adv #meshnetwork at #Freifunk. Unfortunately we had to start filtering all #multicast in 2013 due to increased network sizes. Now, 11 years later with many new changes in #batman_adv and #Gluon we could reenable multicast at @ffhl. And Bonjour chat works again!

This morning my ISP had an outage and I restarted their router, which happens to power my rpi0 with the web server for this project
And I forgot to restart that web server, so I lost all data from today
But before that, it was performing beautifully. There were 844 records for each node since last night, like clockwork. I happen to have cleared my previous data last night, so all the nodes were running and already on a stable mesh at the time.
Each sensor has been broadcasting its readings every three seconds, at which point my server decides to ignore most readings until the 1 minute mark (per sensor) and I’m happy that not one minute was lost for half a day of recording
I am less happy that after the web server was restarted, none of the microcontrollers found it by themselves. It looks like the entire mesh collapsed because the root node couldn’t bridge both networks again.
I understand that the root node didn’t restart the bridge between both WiFi (I didn’t set it up that way), but I would have thought that the iot mesh should have continued independently? Perhaps because it is declared as the root node? I’ll have to test this more.
I reset the ESP32 root node and it picked up the home WiFi fine, but none of the probes connected to it again (this mesh should have self healed within minutes, at most)
I went around the house to reset each ESP8266 node and yes, that is when the mesh self organized again and I started seeing the web server collecting readings again, as their BME680 sensor finished its self calibration routine
@jwildeboer @OLPC #meshNetwork is something we should really get as default in all #laptops and #phones. I will try to keep an eye on #IEEE802.11s
I picked up a second #meshtastic client, this time one that came with a case lol
this time I went with a #muziworks #H2T and so far it seems to be working pretty well!
I'll share updates as I explore/play with it!
