Big news! Our friends at Universal Blue have released an LTS of their Bluefin OS, built with the power of bootc on top of CentOS Stream base images. If you love Bluefin but want CentOS stability, check it out.

Learning about the P2CODE and how they are using kuboot to combine kubernetes and bootc for image mode deployments!
Either deploy as a container or bootc-based VM.

I have my setup here:
3/3 opensource is a generally (like opensuse according to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenSUSE#Organisation) a do-cracy. So if you feel the "so called EU OS" is not good enough for you, I propose you work on a better version. You wouldn't be the first: https://gitlab.com/euos (remark the missing hyphen in comparison to the #EU_OS Gitlab page).
Given my insights and experience, I believe we can build already now a good pilot with #Fedora #kinoite and #bootc .
I used #opensuse for a decade (as is already mentioned on https://eu-os.eu/faq). It's a cool distro. I used their build service. I got their t-shirt.
However, the opensuse project has no legal entity and the suse for-profit company could be bought by foreign capital without recourse to the community/project.

Their atomic #kalpa edition is in alpha stage and doesn't offer consistency across the fleet as #bootc does. 1/3
#bootc provides for a doable learning curve for existing cloud teams to also build desktop systems. Fedora has bootc and is a foundation. bootc also belongs to a foundation (CNCF). CERN has adopted almalinux (downstream variant of Fedora). The public sector has often experience with Redhat.

I finally found some time (hello insomnia) to reinstall my laptop, and thus move from "classic" rpm-ostree to #bootc Thus now my OS is managed in
https://github.com/martinpitt/workstation-bootc , and the old ostree repo is obsolete.
Project Bluefin! The beer represents homebrew. The "ice" represents Flatpaks, there's a small Flathub logo on the glass. A small Bazaar flag hanging represents Bazaar and finally a seal hat to represent bootc!

I've got a new video live! This past Friday I decided it was time. Time to finally turn Windows 11 into the second class citizen it deserves to be, moving it from my primary drive, to a secondary SSD, and replacing my primary OS with... Fedora Bazzite.
Bazzite is a gaming distribution of #fedora based on #bootc technology. And ive been running it for some time. In my opinion, it truly solves #gamingonlinux
Added a small function to my macadam wrapper to keep the script active. This way it can be maintained by systemd.
For example:
machine minecraft from dotfedora
machine minecraft start
machine minecraft switch minecraft-server #bootc magic
machine minecraft stop
machine minecraft export
systemctl --user enable --now dotfiles-machine-minecraft
and voila, a running Minecraft bedrock server
3/3 Thanks to the open source communities who helped and developed to the benefit of #EU_OS!
1) #foreman integration with #bootc facts export also for Fedora: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/rriemann/eu-os/package/bootc/
2) #bluebuild improves local deployment of OCI containers for better development https://github.com/blue-build/cli/pull/448
3) #foreman investigation of issues with OCI registry receiving large containers (ours is about 9GiB) https://projects.theforeman.org/issues/38649
We got a #Matrix channel for developers at #eu-os-dev:kde.org Come over and say hi!
A rare double merge just occurred.
We have just released `default-flatpaks@v2` for automatically setting up your Flatpaks in a custom image, which should be way more robust and maintainable than the old version. Read the announcement post: https://blue-build.org/blog/default-flatpaks-v2/
Additionally, the new `soar` module was merged, providing automatic installation and configuration of a nice new alternative to brew for local packages. Read the docs: https://blue-build.org/reference/modules/soar/
The Containerization Guild is meeting tomorrow! Come check out all the awesome talks about #bootc, systemd system extensions, even our own ublue-os/image-template is making an appearance!
I spoke at this event last year and can highly recommend it, great technical content by people making the stuff!

We are bringing UKI and strong boot integrity guarantees with composefs to Bootable Containers. We demonstrated our latest progress on that front at DevConf.cz 2025: https://pretalx.devconf.info/devconf-cz-2025/talk/739KGC/
