Blue-Gray Tanager
I originally wrote the following a couple of years ago, and I've just noticed something interesting—the bird in the photograph has captured an insect of some sort!
While going through some of my photographs from Costa Maya, Mexico this morning, I stumbled upon a few that initially appeared to be nothing more than a dark cluster of leaves. My first thought was that I must have taken these photos by accident. I was just about to delete them when something caught my eye—wait a minute, what’s that? Upon closer inspection, I realized there was a bird in the photos! I believe the bird might be a blue-gray tanager (Thraupis episcopus), based on an ID I found using Merlin.

Drove from Dublin to South Ireland. Most part is was misty and rainy, but did see and/or hear (like the common grasshopper) some nice birds.
If some knows what’s wrong with the room it’s beak. Let me know.
Edit: nothing wrong, it’s a sack for food storage.

For those who think that sparrows are dull little brown birds, here's a spring plumaged Grasshopper Sparrow, seen in Flyover Country KS yesterday.
Motion Above the Leaves
When I captured this image, I recognized that I had photographed a female northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) in flight. Initially, I believed the shutter speed was fast enough to freeze the motion of her wings, but now I realize it wasn’t. I’ll need to revisit my camera settings since I sometimes unintentionally alter them without noticing. That said, I find myself appreciating the outcome—a fortunate accident that turned out beautifully.
