I like the idea of providing bookmarks to warn book buyers of the concentration of the publishing market. We need something like this in #Aus I think to promote indie publishing houses. Regular visits to each bookshop by a few browsers could make a difference I think. ALl we need is an organiser/coordinator and a sponsoring print shop or two.

“A #ScienceNerd” who wanted to collect all the elements of the #PeriodicTable could face jail time after ordering #radioactive material over the #internet.

But Emmanuel Lidden, 24, will have to wait to learn his sentence after breaching nuclear non-proliferation laws by shipping samples of plutonium to his parents’ suburban Sydney apartment.

Lidden pleaded guilty to offences under #Australia’s #NuclearNonProliferation Act ☢️ that carry a possible 10-year jail sentence, and is due to receive his sentence from the judge Leonie Flannery on 11 April.

The importation sparked a major hazmat alert, with Australian Border Force (#ABF) officials, #firefighters, #police and #paramedics all attending the scene in August 2023.

Far from there being any intention of building something nefarious like a nuclear weapon, Lidden’s lawyer John Sutton described his client as an “innocent collector” and “science nerd” who had been left flipping burgers after being sacked from his job because of the investigation.”

Rupert Murdoch, Ita Buttrose and Gina Rinehart are some of the worst human beings our species has ever coughed up.

As an Australian, I'm ashamed that we created all of these nasty selfish oxygen thieves!

I'll hopefully outlive them but given how the rich have hoarded and built paywalls to accessing medicine in Australia that's not guaranteed anymore... Even with being nearly forty years younger.

as of march 1st, prometrium (#progesterone), estrogel, and estrogel pro will be added to the PBS - this means you'll be able to get public scripts for them, which will be subsidised. see abc.net.au/news/2025-02-08/fed for more.

the addition of prometrium is especially good news because progesterone was previously only available via PBS as a vaginal gel, and only under very specific conditions: pbs.gov.au/medicine/item/12465

Today is Invasion Day.
We are celebrating the day when the colonial convict invasion fleet of 11 ships descended on Botany Bay (Now Sydney) to establish a penal colony.
The invaders came from the other side of the planet.

Almost immediately, the genocide of first nation people begun with murders, rapes and kidnappings.
First nation people were ledgered and treated like livestock.
There were multiple instances of recorded poisonings and massacres.
One place commemorates one such massacre with its name "Poisoned waterhole creek"

One of the first Governors of the colony, Macquarie, who's name is revered by the colonials issued free ammunition to the settlers to kill the locals.
Today his name is on Universities and Banks.

To this day, the convicts (by a slim majority) refer to the locals contemptuously as "Abos".
The genocide continues with deaths in police custody and poor health outcomes.

Australia of today still has the jailkeeper/convict mentality with deep authoritarian resonance and dual class society system masked as "egalitarian".
A lie many colonials believe.
