I've been meaning to write this down for a long while, but i've made it a youtube essay instead, as an experiment, to learn something new; so: what the hell is the problem with monads?
youtube.com/watch?v=LekhueQ4zV #monads #haskell

it was meant to come out two weeks ago, but i couldn't get the youtube handle i wanted... in the end i went with the second best ^^'

i'll try to write a "postmortem" about this experiment: what went right, what went wrong, what i now understand, and what i now know that i don't understand...

in the meantime: all feedback welcome!

and thanks again to my much appreciated early reviewers. :)

@nicuveo while I'm not the target audience (not planning to learn Haskell), I always enjoy essays on monads – especially to apply the concept to other languages. So yay!

I like the way the content is structured, and the tone of it all. And I imagine how must work must go into producing a video: the shooting, editing, shooting again… But the result is nice!

@nicuveo (and also: were the sequences with your voice over a slideshow recorded at the same time than the filmed segments?

Because for instance, on the ”Monads in JS” part, your voice seems a little different from the filmed segments – and by ”different” I mean ”with a slight french accent” :)

I like the french accent btw, and to me it doesn't hinder the comprehension. And in a sense, the accent changing slightly makes the video… more artisanal? more human?

End of sidenote)

@pmorinerie nope, not recorded at the same time; i threw away 90% of what i had filmed, for reasons i'll get into when i write a postmortem. So, most of the voiceover of the slides is done at a later time, with a better setup, but not as much sleep in my body because editing is a lot of work :D
