Rivermonster<p>The closest I've come to enjoying UI design was when I used GAMBAS, a little known and underrated dialect of BASIC. Unfortunately it's not cross platform. I wish wxPython had something as cool. I've looked at a few, just don't do it for me. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/programming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>programming</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/coding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>coding</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wxpython" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wxpython</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a></p>
Rivermonster<p>Hey smart people of the Internet. It seems like things have changed (for the worse) in newer <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a>. I am trying to install <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wxPython" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wxPython</span></a> like I always have been doing, per <a href="https://wxpython.org/pages/downloads/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">wxpython.org/pages/downloads/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>pip install -U -f <a href="https://extras.wxpython.org/wxPython4/extras/linux/gtk3/ubuntu-24.04" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">extras.wxpython.org/wxPython4/</span><span class="invisible">extras/linux/gtk3/ubuntu-24.04</span></a> wxPython</p><p>And it is suddenly yelling at me to not install the exact way I have been installing this for years and years. What is the new cool hip way they want me to do this? Preferably uncomplicated. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ubuntu</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gnu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gnu</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/programming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>programming</span></a></p>

dragonwolf of the shadow pride<p>quick programming question, does anyone know how to fix the wx slider reporting the wrong values to nvda or other screenreaders. It appears to always report a higher value when pressing down and a lower value when pressing up, even if I set style to wx.SL_INVERSE. <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/programming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>programming</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>accessibility</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/screenreader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>screenreader</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/WxPython" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WxPython</span></a> <a href="https://dragonscave.space/tags/gui" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gui</span></a></p>

FiXato (fallback)<p>okay, managed to write a simple <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/textEditor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>textEditor</span></a> in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a> using <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wxPython" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wxPython</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pyWinhook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pyWinhook</span></a> that will trap any <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/KeyDown" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KeyDown</span></a> I don't like. It's crude, doesn't handle capitals or altGraph symbols, and is likely <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Windows</span></a>-only for now, but I'll share the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/code" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>code</span></a> later tonight. :)</p><p>A lucky added benefit of this is that in the process I realised I can use the same principle to temporarily disable the mute key <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BeardGrabber" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BeardGrabber</span></a> keeps hitting. Already wrote a simpler <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CLI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CLI</span></a> version of it. 😄</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/coding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>coding</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ScratchYourOwnItches" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScratchYourOwnItches</span></a></p>
FiXato (fallback)<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://dragonscave.space/@fireborn" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>fireborn</span></a></span> Looks like <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Windows</span></a>'s Single App Kiosk accounts (<a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/configuration/kiosk-single-app" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windo</span><span class="invisible">ws/configuration/kiosk-single-app</span></a>) could indeed be a way to go, though I'd still need an editor that doesn't have too many of its own shortcuts or menus he could get stuck in.</p><p>Currently looking into creating a simple <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a> app with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wxPython" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wxPython</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/PyWinhook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PyWinhook</span></a> that will do both instead. :)</p>
FiXato (fallback)<p>Cool, got some <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GUI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GUI</span></a> progress on my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/StreamingMediaLauncher" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StreamingMediaLauncher</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wxPython" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wxPython</span></a> project :D</p><p>It now fills a grid with buttons with thumbnail images for my subscriptions' videos, and clicking on them will open <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MPV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MPV</span></a>. :D</p><p>Auto-resizing still doesn't quite work as well as I'd like though... will have to look closer into that...</p><p>Start-up time also is still quite atrocious, but that should probably improve by loading a smaller JSON file with less cached video entries.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/coding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>coding</span></a></p>
FiXato (fallback)<p>Right, the code for my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wxPython" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wxPython</span></a> media launcher project now has a (private for now) remote repo too, aptly named <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/StreamingMediaLauncher" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StreamingMediaLauncher</span></a>.</p><p>So, if shit hits the fan (or tea hits the laptop), past week's <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/coding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>coding</span></a> won't be a waste. ;)</p>
FiXato (fallback)<p>Okay, progress made on my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a>-based <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/mediaLauncher" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mediaLauncher</span></a> :)<br>Currently just displays thumbnails for the most recent videos from my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/YouTube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>YouTube</span></a> subscriptions (and it looks like I have a duplicate in it?) and can't interact it yet, but eventually I want it to:<br>- launch <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/mpv" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mpv</span></a> with the media URL when I click on a thumbnail<br>- load/show details (description, comments, etc) for the given video<br>- easily group and filter channels<br>- combine other sources, such as <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Twitch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Twitch</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RSS</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wxPython" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wxPython</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/coding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>coding</span></a></p>
