J. Steven York RESISTS<p>(1/?) I watch a number of "urbanist" channels on YouTube because I find the subjects of better cities, energy efficiency, and better transit to be interesting and important to our collective future. But while I find a lot to agree with, sometimes I find the presenters and their ideas -- challenging. And today I watched a video by Ray Delahanty, who I've been watching for a long time, and it cheesed me off quite a bit.... I could be more tolerant of abled urbanists/cycle advocates making sweeping statements about what drivers should be allowed or what infrastructure design is "better" if I ever saw them address accessibility for disabled drivers & disabled cyclists as a regular part of their practice, informed by actual co-leadership with disabled people. So far, at least for the social media, videos, talks & articles that cross my path, I don't see that. #Accessibility #Urbanists #BikeTooter

@willowbl00 Jane Jacob's The Death and Life of Great American Cities was adamant that what reduces crime and improves neighborhood safety is having eyes on the street i.e.neighbours out on the street interacting and knowing each other and what is going on in the neighborhood. Maybe some #Urbanists out there can point to research to back this up?
