In The Court Of The Crimson King - King Crimson

Said by some to have begun the prog rock phenomenon (although Pink Floyd and The Nice might have something to say about that), this is certainly one of the most influential albums of that genre. The first track, 21st Century Schizoid Man (which surely influenced Black Sabbath) was sampled by Kanye West in the track Power.

The prompt is Xeno-
Peter Gabriel. “Not One of Us” 1980

Stepping away from my usual use of the prompt as literal text and going conceptual on this one, using the concept of xenophobia.

#PeterGabriel had the idea of issuing successive albums under just his name, like issues of a periodical. This made identifying his albums tough, so the album featuring this track is often referred to as “Peter Gabriel 3” (his third solo album) or “Melt” based on the cover graphic of his face seeming to melt.

The stripped-down #punk/ #postpunk aesthetic pointedly eschewed the excesses of #Prog(ressive) or #ArtRock bands, so I’ve puzzled over the likes of Peter Gabriel and #RobertFripp emerging from such bands (#Genesis and #KingCrimson respectively), and producing taut, lean music embracing/embraced by this #NewWave (pun intended). I don't know - could it be about talented people giving up drugs (or drug-soaked colleagues)?

"It was the first true progressive rock album, from one of the UK’s most cutting-edge bands of the era. We talked to members of the original 1969 line-up of about the making of the ground-breaking In The Court Of The Crimson King: An Observation By King Crimson."

"'Heroes'" is a song by the English musician #DavidBowie from his 12th studio album of the same name. Co-written by Bowie and #BrianEno and co-produced by Bowie and #TonyVisconti, the song was recorded in mid-1977 at #HansaStudio2 in #WestBerlin. The backing track was recorded fully before lyrics were written; Bowie and Eno added #synthesiser #overdubs while #RobertFripp contributed guitar. To record the vocal, Visconti devised a "multi-latch" system.
