Graham Downs<p>How do you pronounce Vladimir Putin's surname? <a href="https://mastodon.africa/tags/English" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>English</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.africa/tags/pronunciation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pronunciation</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.africa/tags/polls" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>polls</span></a></p><p>(Yes, I know many Americans pronounce Ts as Ds, so if you say "Poo-din" it counts as "Poo-tin" for the purposes of this poll) :-)</p>

Lkdc<p>People on Mastodon often refer to residents of the United States as "USians". This avoids the use of the word "Americans", which some non-US people in South America, Central America, and North America think should apply to all people in the Americas. This makes sense to me, and now I often write "USian".</p><p>I would like also to use the word "USian" in spoken conversation, but I don't know the correct pronunciation. Can anyone tell me how to pronounce it? Should I spell it out, saying "U-S-I-A-N", or is there another pronunciation of fewer syllables?</p><p><a href="https://dmv.community/tags/USian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USian</span></a> <a href="https://dmv.community/tags/pronunciation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pronunciation</span></a></p>
