Pete Prodoehl 🍕<p>I'm working on a new parametric design to hold micro:bit boards... You can change the number of boards, space between them, and angle they insert... they also snap into place with a nice little "click" and don't fall out. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/openScad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>openScad</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/3Dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>3Dprinting</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/microbit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microbit</span></a></p>
Pete Prodoehl 🍕<p>(I don't mention my day-job related stuff here much but...)</p><p>US-based teachers and librarians can receive $500+ of our micro:bit kits for free.</p><p>Join us this summer for a free PD course with Pathfinders Summer Institute. Sherri W (SyntaxSeed)<p>My complaint remains from the <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/Arduino" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Arduino</span></a> though. Lessons have an over-emphasis on the coding part but only cursory explanation of circuits &amp; electronics.</p><p>It amounts to mostly blindly following a wiring diagram.</p><p>Also haven't found much in the way of Official video lessons other than kits for teachers. 🤔</p><p>Currently using the big lesson PDF from Freenove (the company behind the <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/Microbit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Microbit</span></a> + extras kit we bought).</p>
Sherri W (SyntaxSeed)<p>One of my sons received a <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/MicroBit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MicroBit</span></a> for his birthday. It's a microcontroller kit similar to <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/Arduino" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Arduino</span></a>, but a bit more kid/student friendly. With input buttons &amp; an LED matrix display &amp; various sensors right on the board. Very cool. He can program it with a Scratch-style visual block language (or JS or Python).</p><p><a href="https://phpc.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/STEM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>STEM</span></a> <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/Circuits" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Circuits</span></a></p>
iotar<p>Spent most of this morning bricolaging* a cradle for the BBC Microbit (red-LED device top left) so that it hangs from the top bar of the Z correctly. These are the important things to get right while maintaining yr monogram.</p><p>* I am an English teacher and if I say that "to bricolage" is a verb, it's a fucking verb.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/microbit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microbit</span></a></p>
Pete Prodoehl 🍕<p>I've had more than one micro:bit board button fail when the solder joint broke loose.</p><p>It also looks like only the bottom leg is connected electrically so if that one comes loose you've got no button.</p><p>(Well, you can press it *really* hard to force it to make contact.)</p><p>Easy to fix with a dab of solder for those who can solder but still a bit annoying.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/microbit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microbit</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/stem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>stem</span></a></p>

It's programmed in <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/micropython" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>micropython</span></a>.</p><p>Today I wrote the calibration code, which gives instant feedback when aiming the lasers at the light sensors.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/microbit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microbit</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a></p>

Chris Huffee<p>Assembled pcb for a microbit aeroplane project. As much experimenting with pcbs as 3d construction material as anything else at this stage, until I actually get the planes flying. Chris Huffee<p>Final of a busy week of blue boxes of joy.
