The Heart Nebula
=============

For some reason, I keep coming back to this object. I just love all of those fine details in the heart nebula and it's neighbour, the fish head nebula.

In the center of the heart nebula, there's a small open cluster of stars, called Melotte 15. These stars are responsible for the ionization of the surrounding gas, making it glow in the characteristic red hue of hydrogen alpha emissions.

The fish head nebula, also known as IC 1795, is a bright emission nebula, located in the same star-forming region as the heart nebula. It's a bit fainter than its neighbour, but still shows a lot of fine details.

IC 443 Jellyfish Nebula in Gemini. This is a supernova remnant ~5000 light years away. The supernova probably exploded 30000-40000 years ago. My first attempt at such a faint object and it's a little less than three hours of imaging time. I used it as an excuse to learn some new processing techniques. Still a lot to learn and I think I can do better than this, but on to the next challenge.

Orions Belt
========

Orion’s Belt is a well-known asterism in the constellation Orion. It consists of the three bright stars Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka. These stars are more formally known as Zeta (ζ), Epsilon (ε), and Delta (δ) Orionis, respectively. The belt is one of the most easily recognizable asterisms in the night sky, being far more noticeable than the Big Dipper. The stars are more or less evenly spaced in a straight line, and so can be visualized as the belt of the hunter’s clothing.

The area around Alnitak with the Flame and Horse Head Nebulae is a classic target for astrophotographers, but I tried to put it into a bit more context, also highlighting the lighter dust regions between Alnilam and Mintaka.

The iconic Horse Head Nebula is a dark nebula roughly 1.500 light years from earth, consisting of a swirling cloud of gas and dust resembling the shape of a horse’s head.

The Spaghetti Nebula
================
Oh, I'm slightly proud of this one 🤓 It's not just my most complex project so far but also a very faint and challenging target.

The Spaghetti Nebula, also known as Simeis 147 or Sharpless 240, is a supernova remnant between the constellations Auriga and Taurus. It's a very faint nebula, relatively recently discovered in 1952 by Crimean Astrophysical Observatory by Grigory Shajn and his team.

The nebula exhibits an almost spherical shell with a filamentary structure. It has an apparent diameter of about 3 degrees, a distance of approximately 3.000 light-years, and an estimated age of around 40.000 years. At this distance, its span is roughly 160 light-years.

The Seven Sisters ============== Located about 444 light years from earth, in the constellation of Taurus, the Pleiades are among the closest star clusters to our sun and probably the most obvious one in the night sky, clearly visible to the naked eye and a great sight through binoculars. The cluster is visually dominated by seven hot blue stars, formed within the last 100 million years, moving together through a dust cloud in the interstellar medium, thus causing the famous blue reflection nebulae around them. It’s estimated that the cluster will probably survive for about another 250 million years, after which it will disperse due to gravitational interactions with its galactic neighborhood.
