Matthijs De SmedtI continue to be very interested in "Web Monetization" as a way to seamlessly support the multitude of small independent websites I use daily, such as my home Mastodon and PeerTube instances.Unfortunately, the <a href="https://interledger.social/@Interledger" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@Interledger</a> wallet continues to be broken so I can't experiment with it. It seems like the infrastructure involved here isn't quite ready for public use yet.I'm looking forward to the point where it, hopefully, catches on and micropayments flow to the services I use and the independent content creators I read, watch and listen to. This model would ensure all of the allocated budgeted is paid. A person sets a max payment amount per hour. The extension pays out that rate to the wallet addresses linked to content. Payments are only made to wallets linked in the active tab/window or playing media in another tab. So if an article is read for 6 minutes, the linked wallet address of the content will receive 10% of the max hourly rate.<a href="https://interledger.social/tags/WebMonetization" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WebMonetization</a>

Interledger FoundationWeb Monetization (WM) lets you support websites without ads or subscriptions. You provide your Open Payments wallet address (like an email for money), and sites do the same. As you browse, small payments flow to them. Matthijs De SmedtI think what's so appealing to Web Monetization for me is I believe it's fine to pay for content I'm looking at (it always cost someone time and money to provide it) but I don't like monthly subscriptions where I'd pay a fixed $x/mo to something. Because what content I consume changes all the time and I don't like paying for something I don't use.With Web Monetization, if it ever takes off, I'll be able to configure it to donate $x/h and this gets distributed to the content I'm actually looking at hour to hour. Makes a lot of sense to me.
