As you know from your own experience, our spokes council operates on the basis of open debate, allowing for input and questions from everyone, making it unfeasible to make this decision by the afternoon. Hence, we regret that you have set such a short deadline.</p><p>As has always been the case during the month-long, peaceful occupation, we remain open to dialogue, discussions, and consultations. You have participated in this twice before, and it is disappointing that you no longer wish to opt for facilitation, discussion, or debate, but instead are choosing the legal route.</p><p>We believe and hope that the University, as you state in your letter, will develop a policy that 'explicitly recognizes and acts upon the importance of human rights and sustainability.' Occupy UGent<p>After months of protesting, an <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/occupation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>occupation</span></a> and two open letters, the rector has finally given his students some time of day. We have invited him to an open dialogue during our spokescouncil (our daily open meeting) on campus, but he has declined this invitation. All he has offered us is a talk behind closed doors to lecture us on why he refuses to meet our demands. This shows once again that he doesn't acknowledge the weight of this action. We, the students, staff, and everyone supporting this occupation won’t let him silence us. Occupy UGent<p>This afternoon, we made a pro-<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Palestine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Palestine</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/bicycle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bicycle</span></a> tour through <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Ghent" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ghent</span></a>. It was a nice ride with about 100 people wearing Keffiyah and Palestine flags.
