(bit of jerking due to missing frames). Cirrus clouds looming across the bottom are from ex-Typhoon Ampil.
Outstanding radar image of the #Shiveluch #volcano.
#Radar data is not affected by cloud cover or rain. It can be acquired day or night, and often penetrates snow down to bedrock, unlike optical data (e.g. #Sentinel2, #landsat ).
Acquired on April 17, it shows the immense collapse of the crater, and potentially a growing lava lobe.
Kudos to @RaphaelGrandin and Alina Shevchenko for their work in the area and Capella Space for providing the image.

RT @kosmi64833127: Eruption of #Shiveluch #volcano in #Kamchatka.
New image taken by @CopernicusEU #Sentinel3 shows long plume and large area covered by volcanic ash ( still, ash-covered area seems to be much smaller than i thought yesterday ).

Volcanic eruption in Russia disrupts flights in northwestern British Columbia
https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/news/article/volcanic-eruption-in-russia-disrupts-flights-in-northwestern-british-columbia “ #volcano on the far eastern part of the #Kamchatka peninsula erupted Tuesday, and a few days later, #BritishColumbia is witnessing the effects.
The #Shiveluch volcano sent a large ash cloud 10 kilometres into the sky.
Approximately 4,300 km away from the eruption, the #AshCloud prompted #AirCanada to cancel some of its regional flights to and from #terraced and #PrinceRupert.”

I'm trying to share introduction posts of geoscientists when I see them, keep 'em coming! Make sure you use a ton of hashtags and get your intro done so people can see who you are and what you will toot about :)
This is a bunch of trees wrapped around another tree after they were tossed about in a pyroclastic flow -or more specifically, block-and-ash flow from a lava dome collapse- at Shiveluch.
