🤸‍♀️ Ada ⅗ 🤼‍♀️"Independent medias: a continent at the crossroads" - end of an intense day discussing the current stakes of the sector with journalists and media outlets from all over the EU and beyond during the <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/SpheraMediaLab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SpheraMediaLab</a> in <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/LaVall%C3%A9e" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#LaVallée</a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Molenbeek" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Molenbeek</a> (<a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Brussels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Brussels</a>).Alongside with some people, I pushed for a broader adoption of the fediverse to publish or promote our content. Because independent medias need independent social medias, and vice-versa. Seems obvious said like this but apparently it isn't, yet.The workshop I gave this morning, "hacking social media algorithms to push independent media counter-narratives" was fully booked though. And these 30 people confirmed the urgent need for strategies to face the current situation and all the shadowbanning and filter bubbles on the mainstream platforms. Although I did give some tools to circumvent automated OCR-based filtering, I also made it very clear that any efforts should now focus on promoting alternatives. Everybody could confirm how weak was the actual engagement on commercial silos, but the situation is getting worse. I suggested relying more on grassroot, offline communication in complement with the fediverse. But most people who did try using mastodon felt lost and confused here, preferring bluesky instead... thus I at least suggested to do cross-posting with apps such as openvibe or ActivityPub plugins.What makes people still interested in the <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#fediverse</a> is its independance and resilience. As <a href="https://ps.s10y.eu/@natacha" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@natacha</a> mentioned, there is a real need for a fedi hoster made for/by independent medias, funded by the EU. A common platform to gather and support the integration of independent news outlets such as what <a href="https://mastodon.social/@bastamedia" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@bastamedia</a> did on the web with <a href="https://portail.basta.media" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank">https://portail.basta.media</a>.And actually, there actually already exists a similar project that I had the chance to discover by chance when I met a cofounder of <a href="https://displayeurope.social/@social" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@social</a>. I've never heard of it before! Yet, this media produces, federates and translates press articles in 15 european languages! I know some people get miffed by this, but I need my days to <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/reset" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#reset</a> and <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/refuel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#refuel</a>. Took a walk and had a 2 hour nap. The headache that has been building disappeared. Feel so much calmer and better tonight. I'm leasing a 2023 <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/VW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#VW</a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/ID4Pro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ID4Pro</a> and after recharging the car yesterday, the computer screens on the car (2 of them) went entirely blank this morning.Fortunately, the car still functioned -- trans worked, lights worked & turn signals (& I assume, the brake lights) worked -- but the speedo, radio, climate control & all of the rest of the stuff controlled by the computer didn't.Took a risk driving it to/from the PO & after I got back, I <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Googled" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Googled</a> the problem & immediately found the solution.Just press the on/off button for the main screen for 10+ secs. Did that & it worked but that info was no where to be found in the owner's manual. 🤷‍♂️Glad I'm just leasing this car . . . 😉
