Elena Garro, una de las figuras más destacadas de la literatura mexicana, no solo es recordada por su magistral obra Los recuerdos del porvenir, que le otorgó el Premio Xavier Villaurrutia en 1963, sino también por su aguda inteligencia y sentido del humor. En 1964, la revista Kena publicó una anécdota de la escritora que capturaba su relación con un sobrino distraído y ensimismado.Garro solía decirle al niño: «Niño, pareces menso, de Mensopotamia». No hace mucho, el sobrino había escuchado a su maestro de geografía explicar que Mesopotamia, que significa «entre dos ríos», es una región situada entre el Tigris y el Éufrates. Sin embargo, durante la clase, el niño, convencido por las palabras de su tía, interrumpió al maestro levantando la mano con firmeza: «No se dice Mesopotamia, se dice Mensopotamia».Sorprendido, el maestro le preguntó: «¿Y de dónde has sacado tal disparate?». A lo que el niño, con orgullo, respondió: «Mi tía lo dice. Ella tiene razón, porque es muy inteligente y sabe mucho. No sé si sabrá que ha ganado el Premio Villaurrutia».Esta encantadora anécdota revela el ingenio de Elena Garro y cómo influía incluso en los más jóvenes. Su capacidad para jugar con las palabras, su humor y la manera en que era percibida por su familia añaden una dimensión más cercana a la escritora, mostrando que, aunque su mente estaba llena de brillantes historias y reflexiones, también sabía disfrutar de los pequeños momentos cotidianos.El legado de Garro no se limita a su obra literaria.
