These days, Id like to install a stable Linux distribution on my <a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/Mac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mac</span></a>, because the hardware is awesome, but <a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/macOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>macOS</span></a> is in a very poor state.</p>

vappster<p>Okay, this is nuts: I got Wi-Fi working on the <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/hackintosh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hackintosh</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/netbook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>netbook</span></a> …but not how I thought I would</p><p>The netbook came with an unsupported card so my plan was to replace it with a AR5B125 I own which *is* supported… but it requires ATH9KFixup, and that's for 10.7+</p><p>Then I found a RT-2700E NIC in my parts box which is *not* listed as compatible anywhere, yet a random blogpost from 2009 said there were OS X PCIe drivers for it… but Ralink's website is gone and any other link seemed to be dead (1/2)</p>

I’m using a thinkpad t480 with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 wifi card.</p><p>If I boot up arch linux or windows the wifi works fine.</p><p>If I boot up macOS using the itlwm wifi drivers im getting like 150KB/s max.</p><p>If I boot up FreeBSD using <a href="https://github.com/pgj/freebsd-wifibox" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">wifibox</a> it will disconnect every like 30 seconds and leads to an extremely unreliable connection. Wifibox is just using an alpine linux VM and pci passthrough to control the wifi card so it <em>should</em> work just as well here as it does under arch linux.</p><p>Also none of this happens on any other network. The network settings are whatever xfinity sets them to. I don’t know how to check and I can’t change them because they’re <em>optimized for my experience</em> or whatever. </p><p>Don’t tell me to buy another router or some other nonsense. It’s not my house, not my network, and there’s no issues for anyone else on any other device.
