Aviancer<p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Twitch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Twitch</span></a> announced they are going to be deleting highlights down to the most viewed 100 hours of video for every <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/streamer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>streamer</span></a> in a few months time. Twitch has not provided any kind of useful tooling for creators to migrate their content off the platform, but yt-dlp can be used as a stopgap to help archive your highlight videos locally. For example,</p><p>yt-dlp --format 'bestvideo+bestaudio[ext=m4a]/bestvideo+bestaudio/best' --merge-output-format mkv <a href="https://www.twitch.tv/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">twitch.tv/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>&lt;user&gt;/videos?filter=highlights</p><p>This will download all highlights from &lt;user&gt; consecutively and save them as .mkv files, but it is still far from practical for more extensive sets of highlights.</p><p>Many people make use of highlights for archiving their streams so they are not simply lost when they are done, and it threatens to erase a lot of Twitch history including not only gaming but also videos from artists, musicians and many others. This is particularly the case in <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/SpeedRunning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpeedRunning</span></a> communities that use Twitch highlights for keeping verifiable records of runs and anything reposted would need to be re-verified.</p><p>Twitch claims this impacts only some 0.5% of users but the methodology for that statistic is at best suspect when it comes to long term active streamers. While I personally don’t have a massive amount of hours of highlights, I do use them for refining and sharing clipped moments as well as for building compilations to share.</p><p>It’s pretty concerning that large swathes of online history are being erased on various platforms (YouTube, imgur, etc) including from those people who are no longer with us or simply can’t archive elsewhere.</p><p>Here’s one place to make your voice heard whether you are someone who streams or watches, <a href="https://twitch.uservoice.com/forums/928429-channel-page/suggestions/49496519-do-not-implement-100-hour-limit-for-highlights-and" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">twitch.uservoice.com/forums/92</span><span class="invisible">8429-channel-page/suggestions/49496519-do-not-implement-100-hour-limit-for-highlights-and</span></a></p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Streaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Streaming</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Internet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Internet</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Archive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Archive</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Archival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Archival</span></a></p>

<p>by pure chance I’ve stumbled upon a beautiful Indonesian web comic The Great Insula, 2024, which seems to be lost media :[ </p><p>host was hardly crawled by Wayback, I can’t find a mention of its author. tried searching a few social media platforms. one chapter was shared before it disappeared.</p><p>DuckDuckGo still has some of the beautiful pages cached. I’ve saved a few of my favourites. just wanted to post here in the hopes it’s not lost forever. lossy archival &lt;/3</p><p><a href="https://duckduckgo.com/?q=The+Great+Insula+site:nonmemoir.xyz&amp;ia=web" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">duckduckgo.com/?q=The+Great+In</span><span class="invisible">sula+site:nonmemoir.xyz&amp;ia=web</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/archival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>archival</span></a></p>

That file name doesn't really make sense. ...Wait. is that 'rem' a group tag or something? Could this be the main program??"</p><p>Drop the file to C64 emulator.<br>BOOM. Enjoy the dulcet SIDchip tones of Cracktro.</p><p>Nintendo didn't have the cojones to make this the first thing that will be loaded by the Virtual Console emulator, obviously. Cowards.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/piracy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>piracy</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/archival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>archival</span></a></p>
hairylarry<p>Oh noes.</p><p>Testing The Indie Archive my cloud bill doubled last month.</p><p>When I only had my anonradio, MixRemix show, it was 6 -8 cents a month.</p><p>Now with the archival cloud storage it was 15 cents.</p><p>That said there's on 1.5 GB of data being stored. Still 8 cents a month for 1.5 GB of static archival storage. Affordable.</p><p>Still it's too much for multiple Terrabytes. I'm recommending two remote systems instead of cloud storage.</p><p>Monthly bills suck.</p><p><a href="https://gamerplus.org/tags/archive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>archive</span></a> <a href="https://gamerplus.org/tags/archival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>archival</span></a> <a href="https://gamerplus.org/tags/IndieArchive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IndieArchive</span></a> <a href="https://gamerplus.org/tags/programming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>programming</span></a></p>
