Alfred Twu<p>Accessory dwelling units are one of California's big housing success stories - in LA, one out of five new homes is an <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/ADU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ADU</span></a>.</p><p>More state laws are proposed to open up homeownership opportunities and make it easier and faster to get permits.</p><p>Currently, ADUs are required to be rentals. However, many homeowners don't want the hassle of being a landlord. Assemblymember Phil Ting from San Francisco has a bill <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/AB1033" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AB1033</span></a> would allow ADUs to be sold separately.</p><p>Community land trusts have also been building ADUs to increase the number of affordable homes on their land. <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/AB671" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AB671</span></a> from San Diego area Assemblymember Chris Ward would allow CLTs to build ADUs &amp; junior ADUs &amp; sell them to separate homeowners, creating new homeownership opportunities.
