Looking at the stats, when all the votes are counted, looks like Harris will have 71-72 M total and trump will have about 74-75 M total. In 2020, it was 81 M for Biden and 74 M for Trump.
Obvious question: did 10 M people just stay at home?
@johnmark Another theory is that the voter suppression worked.
@evan @johnmark You wouldn't believe the hoops I had to jump through to vote by mail from overseas this year.
I wouldn't be surprised if the turnout from us abroad is much lower due to all of the mischief.
Extra mess:
The GA portal had errors and it linked to another site for the mailing address… which was unreachable.
Then there were two different mailing addresses.
I wouldn't have been able to mail in my ballot if I didn't have chat history and Archive.org (which was even down later).
@evan @johnmark Then they also announced they're changing how things are being counted in Georgia after I already filled in and sent off my ballot!
(But that was thankfully overturned, later.)
And this is in addition to using a US address that has no association with me (where my parents lived many years ago), having to send a photocopy of my Georgia driver's license or ID (which I have neither). In fine print, lower, it said, "or passport".
2 sets of differing mulitpage PDF instructions too.
@evan @johnmark Of course, this is after all the typical having to register to vote and ask for a ballot and then getting a reply much later.
It's a total mess, and every year it's gotten worse. This year, the extra technical hurdles would have easily stopped someone who was less technically skilled than I am too.
At least this year, they didn't threaten me with jury duty (and a prison sentence if I didn't show up). Again. So far.
(People living abroad are exempt. But you have to prove it.)
