@HerraBRE And doesn't the pain he has caused others matters? Are they not allowed to air those frustrations, are we not allowed to find solace in that we weren't actually alone in this, and support each other by that?

One of the most fundamental problems with social media and harassment and the pain it causes, is that one person can easily become the flash-point of a mob's aggression.

Whether each individual in the mob actually has justifications for his or her grievances is completely irrelevant. Mob justice is never reasonable.

When people become the target of a mob, the only self care that works is to stop listening. Sound familiar? Yeah.

@HerraBRE @maloki Hi, I appreciate you want to defend someone you see being criticized. Like you, I prefer cooler rhetoric than some of what I have seen.

However I have to point out that you're coming into a hashtag not to contribute but to police people's language and tone. Mal might disagree with me, but I'd like to request you not use this hashtag to police what people can say. If you'd like to see less critiques of the leadership here, feel free to contribute to the forking effort

@deutrino Well, I'm uncomfortable with referring to age when judging people. I've had a tough time getting anyone to take me and my software projects seriously when I was 16, and referring to Eugen as young and inexperienced doesn't help :-(

@yegortimoshenko It's relevant to the topic, which is skill at managing a complex software engineering project with competing stakeholders. Age is a factor. With over 15 years experience, I can assure you I was nowhere near as skillful about it when I started as I've gotten to be nowadays (there's still room for improvement of course). Perhaps @HerraBRE could have worded the idea differently, but Gargron's age crossed my mind in this context before as well.

@yegortimoshenko In other words, I think the comments were meant well, and it's another illustration of both how difficult it is to get that feeling across via text, and of how it's important that as users of text-based social media, it's best for everybody if we assume good faith until bad faith is clearly demonstrated. The #ForkOff issue could use a LOT more assumption of good faith IMO. @HerraBRE

The only ages I talk about on a regular basis are my own - I am constantly surprised at how old I am - and my daughter's, because she is 2 and it is awesome.

But okay. I'll take care to not accidentally be an awful ageist tootfiend. I'm not seeing it, but eyesight does get worse with age... 👴
