@stefan @bjoern similar situation here. Having the family group chat on #XMPP really helped at least my immediate family become regular 😉

It was somewhat easier because my parents were already not on WhatsApp (the dominant messaging platform here) either. A few of the more extended members were though; they're happy that there's now a comparably user-friendly way to contact us 😎

I'm yet to figure out a strategy for strangers and acquaintances... :xmpp:

Hablando del tema. ¿Alguien sabe cómo crear una automatización en un grupo público de XMPP donde se publique automáticamente todo lo que sale en @curiosabiologia ? Como lo que tengo en Telegram (t.me/MuyVary) pero en #XMPP.
Tengo creado el canal pero ahí me he quedado. El de Telegram lo tengo automatizado con Make.com pero no tiene módulo para XMPP

When I read posts like yours, I always see how lucky I am that I don't have it that way. I had theoretically an xmpp account before but only really started after android phones became mainstream here, but before everyone had whatsapp on them.

Then I setup an xmpp server and me and my brother installed xmpp clients on the devices of my family.
We're using it ever since, it only became better and better since the dawn of the #conversations client.
I guess the window to do this easy without much resistance was quite small in retorespect. People don't like change messangers.

I have to say that every time I start my #XMPP client out of curiosity I'm amazed how blazing fast and snappy everything is. 🚀

Than I realize that there is nobody left to chat if I'm not interested in random topic-based chat rooms and close the client again. 😥

It always feels sad, thinking about how we missed the opportunity when almost everyone had a XMPP account (without knowing) and the mobile first trend started.

@TheZeldaZone we are currently trying to move away from discord. Right now by bridging/moving the channels to a self-hosted irc network with thelounge/convos as web interfaces.
Convos also integrates video/voice by linking to public jitsi meet servers.

Galene is another videochat server I have been experimenting with.

#xmpp is another option, but likely a bit less popular than matrix even. Quite good though.
